Signs of Aging Skin

An aging skin has a lot of possible signs – wrinkles, age spots, spidery veins and skin dryness. A person will have them shown on their face but which will come out first differs from person to person. How to prevent aging skin would also therefore depend on one’s skin, lifestyle and genetic framework

Your skin is the outermost layer that protects our body. Keeping it healthy will not only give us the confidence on presenting ourselves to the world but will also, more importantly, be a basis of how we take good care of ourselves even as we grow older. Our food and environment are the two mostly considered factors to a good and healthy skin.

What is Anti-Aging?

Aging is one of the most studied subjects matter in science. Aging is coupled with physical changes; changes that we don’t like. And these changes are what we are most concerned of. This is the reason why anti-aging techniques are creating a niche in the market. How is anti-aging process being done?

Many research studies were done to explain to explain the process of aging. There are so many theories and hypothesis formulated to explain the process. But as I read them, they all convey the same thing – our cells are deteriorating. Every day, we have a number of cells dying that are naturally dying in response to the daily stress that we encounter, internally and externally. But there are also new cells formed to replace the lost ones. This is the part of the natural mechanism of our system, which the science called as Cellular Regeneration.

How Can I Prevent Wrinkles While Losing Weight?

I checked on a variety of ways on how to lose weight. I was on this moment when I happen to read an article stating that losing weight is one of the causes of wrinkles.  Oops! Not good. What will I do now? How can I prevent wrinkles while losing weight at the same time?

So, I specifically looked for suggestions regarding this concern. Wendy Rose Gould mentioned in her article in ehow.com that when a person gains weight, our skin stretches to accommodate the additional weight which is the reason why the skin tends to become saggy and wrinkly upon losing weight. This condition is very much possible to occur especially when a person rapidly loses the weight as cited in Livestrong.com.

Can Stress Give You Wrinkles?

Aging is a term we usually use to pertain to a person whose characteristics are evidently showing signs of deterioration or weakening. The wrinkling of the skin is the most common manifestation as it suggests deterioration in cell regeneration. Stress, in this case, is known to be one of the major precursors of aging. The more we expose ourselves to stress, the more difficult it is for us to stop wrinkles even in our young age.

According to Dr. Neil F. Neimark, our body has its innate “fight or flight response” system in reaction to whatever stress we encounter. This response system is initiated by our brain (hypothalamus) to prepare our body, physically and psychologically. Whenever we are exposed to stress (external or internal), our “fight or flight response” system is triggered. As a result, our body produces stress hormones such as cortisol and norepinephrine. These hormones cause our body to experience a decrease on the activity of our metabolic processes such as digestion, reproduction, growth and immunity.

“Soy vs Wrinkles”

Once (we) people are starting to get older, we become more and more concerned on how to prevent and get rid of wrinkles. We struggle to solicit opinions and suggestions from our family and friends without being aware that the answer might just be inside our refrigerator. If you have soy or soy products in it, then you already got the help you need. How could these soy products be of help with wrinkles?
Soy is actually well-known for its benefits on maintaining a healthy body because of its high levels of protein, vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Just in recent years, its importance in skin care and anti-aging was widely studied. Dr. Mark Messina presented various scientific studies with regards to the skin benefits of soy at Soyconnection.com.

Facial Expressions Generate Forehead Wrinkles

Our forehead is the said to be the part that is most likely to form wrinkles. Forehead wrinkles are therefore one of the major targets of many anti-wrinkle treatments. There is only one major reason being considered why forehead wrinkles are very common to occur. And that is because of our repetitive facial expressions.

As mentioned in Wikipedia.com, our forehead is composed of three muscles and these are the Occipitofrontalis, Procerus and Corrugator supercilii. All of these muscles are being controlled by what they call the facial nerves, thus, they are the muscles responsible in creating different facial expressions such as raising of eyebrows, frowning, squinting, and the like.

Why Do Our Skins Wrinkle?

We are so into wrinkle prevention and reduction. But haven’t you asked yourself why your skin wrinkles? We are all aware that we experience skin wrinkling as we age but science also say that even young people are prone to wrinkles as a result of what is called premature aging.

The American Academy of Dermatology (2010) states that there are two kinds of aging – intrinsic (internal) aging and extrinsic (external) aging. Intrinsic aging refers to the natural aging process and the extrinsic aging, on the other hand, is the one that is commonly called the premature aging. Let’s go over with it one by one.

The Anti-Wrinkle Cream Craze

I went inside a beauty shop this morning to buy an anti-wrinkle face cream. Whoa!! There are so many of them. Are we having an anti-wrinkle cream craze nowadays?? How could we now assess the best anti-wrinkle cream for us?

As I read different sources, I realized that anti-wrinkle face creams are just face moisturizers formulated not only to provide moisture in our skin but also to improve the capability of our skin cells to retain moisture in order for the cells to regenerate and repair faster. However, it would depend on the active ingredient used, the amount being used and the length of time you have been using the product.

Why Do We Want To Get Rid Of Wrinkles?

I am so curious of why so many of us (women) are so conscious of having wrinkles. We already know that it is part of our natural aging process. But why still we want to get rid of wrinkles? I tried to interview some of my girl friends and female neighbors about this matter and gave me these three common answers:

Reason 1: “I don’t want people seeing me getting old!”
We already accept the fact that we are growing old. But the fact of having these physical changes, which other people could also observe is the very thing that we can’t afford to face. Having people around noticing our skin’s sagging and our wrinkles forming worry us too much. It would also give them the impression that we are undergoing too much stress in life. That’s why we want to get rid of wrinkles to get rid of these negative observations from other people.

Can We Prevent Wrinkles?

Adult women are so concerned of getting rid of their wrinkles. How about those women who are not yet experiencing it? Could they prevent wrinkles? How? I gathered information from different sources to answer this question and I summarized them as follows:

1.      Drink a lot of water: Water keeps our body properly hydrated, so as our skins. Proper hydration gives us healthy cells and moisturized skin, thus, keeping our skins from wrinkling.

    2. Minimize drinking alcohol: Too much drinking of alcohol, in contrary with water, can dehydrate our cells. Dehydrated cells would affect their capability to repair when subjected to stress like exposure to the sun or UV.

Simple Tips On Getting Rid Of Wrinkles

Many of us nowadays are very concerned on getting rid of wrinkles. This now became a primary consideration in choosing our daily beauty products. Here are some tips I gathered from various sources:

Tip No. 1: Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.
The heat of the sun contains UV and is known to be a source of free radicals. These free radicals are responsible for the damage of our skin cells so as the collagen in our skin. Damaging the collagen would result to thinning of our skin making it less capable of retaining moisture, making our skin drier and later on wrinkles are developed. You may use a sunblock as a protection.

Tip No. 2: Quit Smoking.
Smoking can cause premature aging leading to wrinkling of the skin not only on your face but also on the other parts of your body. Cigarettes contain nicotine, a substance that can cause narrowing of blood vessels resulting to limited blood flow. We all know that it is our blood that carries the nutrients and oxygen all throughout our body in order for the cells to function well. Also, other ingredients from cigarettes could damage our skin fibers (collagen and elastin) that maintain the elasticity of our skin.

Wrinkles: Sign of Getting Old?

Last night, I heard my 9-year old brother asked mom while she’s having her evening face routine. “What is that for?”, my brother asked. Mom answered, “It is to prevent wrinkles. You know, sign of getting old.”  Then it came to me, are wrinkles just sign of getting old? What are wrinkles really?

Wrinkles are actually the lines, folds or pleats in the skin commonly found on the face specifically on the forehead, around the eyes and at the side corners of our lips. By doing simple research, I found out that skin wrinkles come out as a result of natural aging process including habitual facial expressions, too much exposure to the sun and smoking cigarettes.
